San José - Arenal

Off to the famous Arenal Volcano!

 

You’ll start your day bypicking up your rental car.

Drive from San José to Arenal.

Depart for the La Fortuna region and the majestic ArenalVolcano (1,635 meters).

Approximate driving time: 3 hours.

You’ll have the opportunity to explore this reserve with your private guide to get to know each animal at the foundation and learn about its story. Arenal Volcano

Hike Around the Volcano!

You’ll set out on a hike off the beaten path, accompanied by a local guide at your disposal, into the heart of the Arenal Volcano countryside.

Along the way, you’ll stop at a small waterfall known only to those in the know.

During the hike, you’ll enjoy beautiful views of the volcano, and a picnic break is planned at the ranch of a local finca.

Approximate duration: 7 hours, including 4 hours of hiking; moderate difficulty.

Intimate Hot Springs:

At the end of the day, you’ll enjoy a relaxing moment at a hot springs resort in an intimate setting.

The hot water comes directly from the hot springs of the Arenal Volcano and never comes into contact with the magma.

In the morning, depart from your hotel with a local guide for a hike through the heart of Tenorio Volcano National Park on one of the country’s most beautiful trails, winding through jungle, past waterfalls, and natural hot springs.

You’ll have the opportunity to explore the Rio Celeste, renowned for its surreal turquoise-blue color (which intensifies as light reflects off the water) due to the minerals in its waters, which contrast with the intense green of the tropical vegetation.

Stretching 36 km, the Rio Celeste originates at the confluence of two rivers, flows through volcanic hot springs and sulfur springs, and culminates in a magnificent waterfall.

Approximate duration: 2 hours of transportation, followed by a hike in the National Park lasting about 3 hours; difficulty level: easy to moderate.

Along the way, you’ll pass through varied landscapes and can make a brief stop in Liberia, the “White City,” before reaching the beach resort of Tamarindo on the Pacific coast.

Tamarindo from the sky!

You’ll take an autogyro flight to see every nook and cranny of the Nicoya Peninsula’s coastline near Tamarindo from the sky. You’ll fly over the beaches of Brasilito, Conchal, and Bahia de Pirata, and join the surfers at Playa Grande and Tamarindo from the air. This flight will let you take home some stunning photos of this region from above and experience—perhaps for the first time in your life—a ride in an autogyro!

Approximate duration: 30 incredible minutes.

For the rest of the day, you can enjoy the magnificent beaches you’ll have discovered from the sky.
You can even try your hand at surfing, with spots suitable for all skill levels.

Tamarindo - Palo Verde

Discover the Palo Verde Wetlands!

 

Drive from Tamarindo to Palo Verde.

In the morning, depart for Palo Verde, one of Central America’s most important sanctuaries for migratory species.

Approximate travel time: 2 hours.

Boat tour on the Rio Tempisque

You’ll set out on a boat tour on the Rio Tempisque, which borders Palo Verde National Park.

The park protects more than 18,410 hectares of land, much of which is flooded during the rainy season, creating marshy areas ideal for the passage and extended stay of various bird species.

You’ll cruise along the Rio Tempisque, a famous river that separates Guanacaste from the rest of the country, following the banks in search of the various bird species that live there. You’ll also have the opportunity to see crocodiles, iguanas, monkeys, and other animals living in Palo Verde National Park.

Ojochal - Uvita - Ojochal

Whale and Dolphin Watching Tour

A half-day at sea dedicated to spotting the five species of dolphins and , possibly, humpback whales. You’ll sail through the heart of Marino Ballena National Park and near natural sites such asIsla Ballena, Rocas Tres Hermanas, Cavernes Ventanas, and Punta Uvita, the piece of land shaped like a whale’s tail.

Important: Although this area is ideal for whale and dolphin watching, we cannot guarantee their presence 100%. The boat’s captain will do his best to facilitate this encounter by adjusting the route as conditions allow. Please note that the regulated time spent in the presence of the animals will not exceed 30 minutes, and the boat may not approach closer than 100 to 150 meters.
