Start off with a complete change of scenery in the Tortuguero jungle, where you’ll glide along the canals in search of wildlife. A must-see detour to the most majestic of volcanoes before heading off to relax in seclusion on the country’s only island hotel: tranquility and rest guaranteed. Finally, you’ll head to the capital, but not before having the chanceto spot the quetzal, Costa Rica’s legendary bird.

Your driver will be waiting for you at Juan Santamaria International Airport, near San José, at an elevation of 1,150 meters in the heart of the Central Valley, to take you to your hotel.

Jour 2 :

San José

Costa Rica’s Little Amazon.

 

Early in the morning, depart on a shared shuttle service bound for the must-see Tortuguero region on the Caribbean coast.

Along the way, you’ll first pass through the lush Braulio Carrillo Park, covered in dense tropical rainforest drenched by torrential rains, before traveling alongside banana plantations —Costa Rica is one of the world’s leading exporters of bananas.

At Caño Blanco or La Pavona, you’ll board a motorboat to navigate through the tropical flora and fauna to the lodge.

In the afternoon, you can enjoy the lodge’s trails, gardens, and pool, or visit the Caribbean village of Tortuguero.

Jour 3 :

Tortuguero National Park

Tour of Costa Rica’s “Little Amazon.”

In the morning, departure for Tortuguero National Park. This vast wetland park consists entirely of canals and lagoons nestled in the heart of an impressive jungle, which is why it’s nicknamed the “Little Amazon of Costa Rica.”

So, it is through this unique and extraordinary network of canals, rivers, and marshes in the heart of the jungle that you’ll set out with your guide to discover caimans, toucans, turtles, howler monkeys, parrots, sloths, iguanas, and multicolored birds.

In the afternoon, you can enjoy the lodge’s trails or participate in activities organized by the lodge.

Note: You may have the opportunity to observe turtles laying their eggs at night (from July through October).

Jour 4 :

Tortuguero National Park - Arenal

Today, you’ll head to the Arenal region.

In the morning after breakfast, you’ll sail to the Caño Blanco or La Pavona landing site, before continuing by road to Guápiles.

Once you arrive, you’ll pick up your rental car and head toward Arenal.

Spend the night at a hotel offering an intimate setting where you can relax with your significant other.

Jour 5 :

Arenal Volcano

A Walk Across the Suspension Bridges.

This morning, you’ll enjoy a hike of about 3 kilometers through the primary forest and across some fifteen suspension bridges high above the canopy, offering breathtaking views of the tropical vegetation and Arenal Volcano!

Enjoy a free afternoon exploring the region with your partner. For example, you can soak in the hot springs or take a boat ride on Lake Arenal.

Jour 6 :

Arenal - Nicoya

In the morning, depart for the beautiful Nicoya Peninsula.

You’ll cross the Puente de la Amistad near Nicoya, the administrative center of the peninsula, which lives to the rhythm of the comings and goings of campesinos (farmers) and cowboys.

You’ll pass through a variety of landscapes.

Note: Approximately a 3-hour drive

In the afternoon, you can enjoy the magnificent setting or take part in an activity for two.

Jour 7 :

Jesuit Island

Make the most of your stay in the heart of the Gulf of Nicoya to experience its soothing and authentic atmosphere.

To start your day off right, we recommend using the kayaks provided to explore the surrounding islands. You can also try your handat stand-up paddleboarding on the gulf.

After dark, if visibility permits, you can take a trip out on the water in the hope of seeing the phenomenon of bioluminescent plankton that glow when stirred.

Jesuit Island

Final moments on this island at the end of the world, before returning to the mainland.

You’ll travel through the lush Nicoya Peninsula.

Punta Islita

A free day to relax in an idyllic setting.

If you’d like, you can explore the mangroves and tryyour hand at deep-sea fishing…But there are many other activities that might interest you, such as watching Ridley sea turtles lay their eggs (from June to December), dolphin watching, kayaking, or exploring the seabed (mask and snorkel)

Punta Islita - Monteverde

Free time in Punta Islita, then on to the famous Monteverde Cloud Forest.

Jour 11 :

Monteverde Reserve

Morning hike through the heart of the Santa Elena Biological Reserve and its “Cloud Forest,” located in one of the country’s most humid regions.

Today, you’ll explore lush vegetation in a prehistoric-looking setting where every tree is covered in moss.

This is the perfect opportunity to observe the many birds and animals that inhabit the forest and enjoy the riches that nature has to offer.

In the afternoon, you can choose to relax or participate in an activity such as birdwatching, a visit to the orchid garden, or hiking and horseback riding.

Jour 12 :

Monteverde - San José

Free time to enjoy the many trails crisscrossing the area around Monteverde and Santa Elena. Then, departure for the capital.

After passing through the town of San Ramón, you can stop in Sarchí, the country’s leading center for handicrafts, which carries on a tradition of woodworking. The town, nestled amid coffee plantations on the southern slope of the Poás Volcano, is famous for its ox-drawn carts decorated with hand-painted floral and geometric patterns.

Continue on to Grecia, where you can visit the church whose brick-red steel panels were shipped by boat from Belgium to Costa Rica in 1897.

Note: 3 to 4 hours by car.

Once you arrive, you’ll return your rental car and then catch your return flight.
