In Search of Gold!
Southern Costa Rica, and in particular the Osa Peninsula, is known for its gold deposits. With the creation of Corovado National Park and the implementation of conservation projects, this practice has now almost disappeared.
However, today, you’ll get to become a gold prospector!
After meeting your guide and learning about the history of gold in the region, you’ll walk to the river and get hands-on experience!
This is a hands-on tour of how this precious metal is extracted: a fascinating demonstration that helps you understand the process.
Armed with these new insights, you’ll then enjoy a small traditional snack and a refreshing glass of fresh fruit juice. Excursion to Chocuaco Lagoon:
Accompanied by Carlos, you’ll start with a roughly 20-minute walk through the fields and forests on the property until you reach the boat.
You’ll use this walk to learn how to identify medicinal plants still used today by the village residents.
Then, you’ll take a boat ride down the river until you reach the heart of the lagoon. During this relaxing trip, you’ll be able to spot various types of birds—and, if you’re lucky, maybe even some caimans!
Only the sound of the paddle hitting the water will disturb the tranquility of this peaceful place. Overnight stay with Carlos and Mayra at their lodging called Laguna Chocuaco.
