Welcome to Costa Rica!

Your driver will be waiting for you at Juan Santamaria International Airport, near San José, at an elevation of 1,150 meters in the heart of the Central Valley, to take you to your hotel.

Jour 2 :

San José - Arenal

You’ll start your day by picking up your rental car.

 

Drive from San José to Arenal.

Depart for the La Fortuna region and the majestic Arenal Volcano (1,635 meters).

Jour 3 :

Arenal Volcano

Walk Across the Suspension Bridges

You’ll enjoy a roughly 3-kilometer trail through the primary forest and across about fifteen suspension bridges high above the canopy, offering breathtaking views of the tropical vegetation and Arenal Volcano!

Hot Springs

At the end of the day, you’ll enjoy a relaxing moment at a hot spring resort we particularly love, set in an intimate setting.

The hot water comes directly from the hot springs of Arenal Volcano without ever coming into contact with the magma.

Jour 4 :

Lake Arenal - Bagaces

Fishing on Lake Arenal

Head out to Lake Arenal for a half-day of fishing.

Lake Arenal is renowned for its delicious guapote and machaca (or sabalete, a type of tarpon).

You’ll spend the morning fly fishing or using a traditional rod while enjoying the magnificent view of Arenal Volcano from the lake.

Drive from Arenal to Bagaces.

Depart for the province of Guanacaste, home of the Sabaneros—those proud and colorful cowboys.

Bagaces

Get the most out of this extraordinary lodge by enjoying its two signature activities:

Whitewater Tubing: You’ll safely float down a river flowing at the bottom of a canyon on inflatable tubes. Thrills guaranteed.

Canyon Adventure: You’ll explore an adventure course unique in the country, combining zip lines, suspension bridges, via ferrata, and river hiking—all in the heart of nature.

Bagaces - Samara

Route from Bagaces to Samara.

You’ll leave the tropical jungle behind and head toward the Pacific coast. Along the way, you’ll pass through Liberia, nicknamed the “White City,” the capital of Guanacaste.

Then, enjoy a free day to explore the region’s beaches.

Jour 7 :

Samara

Fishing Expedition!

You’ll head out to sea off the coast of Samara for a half-day of inshore fishing, targeting—depending on the season— mahi-mahi (dolphinfish), trevally, tuna, roosterfish, groupers, bonito, snapper, or cubera, among many others.

The techniques used will include: bottom fishing, jigging, slow trolling, live bait fishing while drifting or at anchor, and, of course, dead bait fishing.

During the excursion, you may be lucky enough to spot dolphins, whales, sea turtles, or stingrays.

Jour 8 :

Samara

Another day dedicated to fishing!

You’ll head out to sea again off the coast of Samara, between 8 and 25 nautical miles, for a day of big-game fishing. Depending on the season, you’ll have the chance to catch marlin, bonito, sailfish, tuna, mahi-mahi, and much more…

During the excursion, you may be lucky enough to spot dolphins, whales, sea turtles, or stingrays.

Jour 9 :

Samara - Jesuit Island

Route from Samara to Isla Chiquita.

Today, you’ll leave the farm to head to the country’s only island hotel, located on Isla Jesuita.

Approximate travel time: 3.5 hours.

Bioluminescence Boat Tour

Our planet has special areas where an impressive natural phenomenon causes tiny lights to glow in the ocean during the dark of night.

Caused by a high concentration of light-emitting plankton, bioluminescence occurs in dark areas when the water is in motion.

This rare phenomenon can be seen around Isla Jesuita, and thanks to this boat adventure, you’ll have the chance to witness it.

Jesuit Island

Artisanal Fishing with Isla Chiquita

Artisanal fishingis a key partof the region’s culture and economy. Traditions passed down from generation to generation are essential to the way of life of many local communities. A fisherman/guide will take you out on a small boat for a delightful expedition to the region’s best fishing spots.

Local catches include snappers, groupers, and more.

Jour 11 :

Jesuit Island - Manuel Antonio

Route from Isla Chiquita to Manuel Antonio via Puntarenas.

You’ll leave this remote island by boat to return to the mainland and your vehicle, then take a ferry from Paquera to cross the Gulf of Nicoya to Puntarenas. Next, head to Manuel Antonio and its famous national park.

Approximate driving time: 5.5 hours (includes ferry travel time)

Sunset Kayaking

Paddle until sunset (and into the night!) along the coastline of Manuel Antonio National Park.

Meet at Maracas, on the south side of the Quepos harbor. You’ll begin paddling toward a secluded beach, where you’ll relax on the white sand and gaze at the stars.

After a snack prepared by your guide, you’ll paddle under a star-filled night sky by moonlight before saying goodbye to the ocean and returning to your hotel.

Manuel Antonio National Park

Visit to Manuel Antonio National Park .

Head to Manuel Antonio National Park, which combines magnificent beaches with a coral reef and a wide variety of flora and fauna: swim in the crystal-clear waters, relax on the fine-sand beaches, take a stroll through the tropical vegetation…

The park is an ideal spot for spotting many animals, such as sloths and squirrel monkeys.

Manuel Antonio - Golfito

Route from Manuel Antonio to Golfito.

Departure for Golfito in the southern part of the country.

Return your vehicle to our local partner, then your lodge will pick you up in Golfito and take you to the heart of Golfo Dulce.

Approximate duration: 30 minutes by boat.

Jour 14 :

Golfo Dulce

Sport Fishing in Golfo Dulce!

Golfo Dulce is one of only four tropical fjords in the world. It is home to a wide variety of fish, corals, and large mammals. It features vast mangrove forests and river mouths that flow into the gulf from the surrounding tropics, and the ocean is rich in minerals.

Enjoy a sport fishing trip in the Golfo Dulce or on the open sea during this excursion. Fish for marlin, swordfish, mahi-mahi, yellowfin tuna, yellowtail, and many other species.

The boat ride takes between 45 minutes and 1.5 hours to reach some of the world’s most productive fishing grounds.

Approximate duration: half-day, full day in the Gulf, or full day on the open sea.

Golfo Dulce

Kayaking in the Mangroves

You’ll have the chance to explore one of Costa Rica’s largest and most pristine river systems just a stone’s throw from your lodge. The mangroves at the river’s mouth lead to picturesque landscapes of untouched mangrove ecosystems.

This diverse terrain offers the chance to spot some of the region’s most beautiful birds, especially at sunrise and sunset during low tide, when the mudflats are exposed and become a feeding ground for waterbirds.

You’ll set out by kayak to the river mouth, where you’ll embark on a peaceful adventure and experience the magic of nature as you paddle down the river through stunning mangrove and rainforestlandscapes .

Your lodge will take you to Golfito so you can reach the national airport via a domestic flight.
